TTTech is active across a wide range of industries. In the CEO Update series, TTTech’s CEO and co-founder Georg Kopetz speaks to experts in their field about some of the megatrends and applications of the future that TTTech and its ecosystem is contributing to. For the latest CEO Update, Georg welcomed Christiana Seethaler, Vice President Product Development at TTControl as a guest.
The focus topics of the discussion are advancements in agricultural technology (AgTech) and the role that smart farming and precision agriculture play in increasing productivity of farmland, while also reducing the resources needed and lowering environmental impact. Some of the topics Georg and Christiana talk about are:
- Technologies that will pave the way for smart farming and precision agriculture: The use of smart sensors, cameras, and electronic control units are key to support new smart applications. Software and cloud connectivity also play an important role in Farm Management Information Systems and in enabling software updates in vehicles, remote diagnostics, and remote maintenance.
- The role of humans in smart agriculture applications: Farmers will need new skill sets in the future, also due to the trend towards more autonomous operation.
- A smart farming use case for weed removal using TTControl’s Fusion: As an agricultural machine drives through the field, it captures images of the plants with its cameras. Fusion identifies weeds in real-time with its AI accelerator executing a machine learning model and sends commands to the control units. Weeds can then be removed mechanically, preserving crops and reducing the need for herbicides.
